The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is now available on the Nintendo Switch 2. The digital-only port costs $60 for those who don’t own the game on the original Switch.
Skyrim’s arrival on the Switch 2 brings a wealth of content and technical improvements. The port includes the base game and all three expansions (Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire), alongside hundreds of Creation Club additions like quests, weapons, armor, spells, and dungeons. The Zelda crossover content (Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Champion’s Tunic) from the Anniversary Edition is also included.
The Switch 2 version boasts enhanced resolution, DLSS anti-aliasing, faster load times, and overall performance optimizations. It also supports mouse controls, motion controls, and Amiibo functionality. Bethesda Creative Director Matt Carofano stated that the port was a relatively quick and easy development process, driven by the desire to bring the beloved game to the Switch 2 and enhance the player experience.
For those who already own Skyrim on the original Switch, an upgrade to the Switch 2 version costs $20. Owners of the Skyrim Anniversary Edition on the original Switch can upgrade to the new version for free. To upgrade, simply install the original game on the Switch 2 and look for the eShop banner advertising the new version.
Skyrim on the Switch 2 offers a fantastic opportunity to revisit a landmark RPG with improved visuals and performance. However, the $60 price point for new players might be a barrier to entry. While the included content is extensive, it’s worth considering whether the upgrades justify the cost, especially for those who have already invested time in the original game. The enhanced technical features and expanded content make it a compelling option for fans, but potential buyers should weigh the price against the value proposition.
