Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord, created by Dave Filoni, will consist of 10 episodes starting April 6th, with two episodes releasing initially and then two episodes weekly until May 6th. The series will explore Maul’s efforts to rebuild his criminal network on an Empire-untouched planet, leading him to a young Jedi Padawan. This project, originally announced at Star Wars Celebration in 2025, takes place after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and before Star Wars: Rebels. As Disney and Lucasfilm navigate the future of the Star Wars franchise following the sequel trilogy, spin-offs like this series and those based on The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars have become key projects. While the studio has faced challenges in developing new cinematic stories, the upcoming film “Star Wars,” set for release on May 22, 2026, marks the first new Star Wars movie in seven years. This series offers a deeper dive into a popular character and aligns with the trend of exploring established storylines within the Star Wars universe, potentially providing fans with more familiar and engaging narratives while the studio continues to develop its long-term cinematic vision.
